AudioFolio Privacy Policy

Applies specifically to AudioFolio: Merge Voice Notes for iPhone and iPad.

Last updated:

This AudioFolio Privacy Policy supplements the general Orbis Meridian Privacy Policy and explains how information is handled specifically when you use AudioFolio.

1. Overview

AudioFolio is an audio utility. You can record with your microphone or import existing recordings, arrange them, trim their beginnings and endings, join them with the gaps you choose, preview the result and export or share one finished audio file. AudioFolio is designed to minimise the personal information it handles.

Audio processing and projects stay on your device. You may choose to save or share a copy, and your device may include local data in its backups. Separately, Google advertising, Apple purchase services and support correspondence can handle the information described below. The advertising service does not receive your recordings.

Who is responsible

AudioFolio is made by Orbis Applications. The responsible developer and controller is Daniel Jones, a sole trader, of 33 Dobb Way, Cambridge, CB3 1BZ. Contact: support.audiofolio@orbisandink.com.

2. Audio files and project data

Local processing

  • Recordings you import from Files or another app’s Share menu are copied into AudioFolio for local processing.
  • Your projects are stored locally on your device. AudioFolio has no project cloud sync.
  • Trimming is non-destructive: it changes the project, not your original recording. Removing a recording from a project does not change the original file either.
  • Your audio is not uploaded to an Orbis Meridian server for editing. Orbis Meridian does not operate a server for AudioFolio.

On your device, AudioFolio keeps working copies of imported recordings, trim, order and gap settings, project names, waveform data, finished export snapshots, export titles, filenames, notes and folders, and a record of your weekly Free export allowance. If a shared import cannot be completed, AudioFolio may keep those files so they can be recovered.

Exports and sharing you choose

When you tap Save to Files / Share, the audio goes to the destination you select. See Exporting and sharing.

Device and iCloud backups

AudioFolio’s local data may be included in your device’s backups, including iCloud Backup, depending on your device settings. Apple handles those backups under its own terms. Orbis Meridian does not receive them.

Microphone recordings

AudioFolio asks for microphone permission when you choose to record. Recordings are stored on your device in My Recordings; they are not uploaded to Orbis Meridian. Projects hold their own working copies. Deleting an original recording does not delete those project copies or finished exports. Delete each separately. Device backups and copies you share are managed separately.

Advertising communications

In the Free version, the Google advertising service communicates with Google over the internet. This is separate from your audio: AudioFolio does not send recordings, project names, notes or finished audio to Google. See Advertising.

3. Accounts

AudioFolio does not require an AudioFolio account or an Orbis Meridian account, and there is no sign-in. Premium purchases use your existing Apple Account through Apple.

4. Free and Premium

  • Free includes three successful new exports each week, with the same editing tools, export formats and sound quality as Premium. Free is supported by limited advertising.
  • Premium is a one-time, non-consumable purchase through Apple. It removes advertising and unlocks unlimited new exports. It is not a subscription and does not renew.

Apple processes the payment. AudioFolio uses Apple’s verified purchase records to recognise and restore Premium; it does not receive your card or bank details. See Apple’s privacy information for Apple’s own processing.

5. Advertising in the Free version

The Free version shows advertising from Google AdMob. To serve and operate advertising, Google’s software in the app may process technical and device information. Google lists this as: IP address (which may be used to estimate general location), crash logs, performance data, device identifiers, advertising data such as ads you have seen, and interactions such as ad taps or video views. Google uses this for ad delivery, measurement, analytics, diagnostics and fraud prevention. See Google’s data disclosure for this SDK.

AudioFolio requests non-personalised ads and applies restrictive advertising treatment to everyone, without asking for your age. Publisher personalisation and the publisher first-party identifier are disabled. Non-personalised advertising does not mean that no information is collected: the technical, advertising and diagnostic processing described above may still occur.

AudioFolio does not request access to your precise device location. An IP address may still be used to estimate approximate location. It does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission; other device- or app-scoped identifiers may still be processed by Google's software.

AudioFolio does not send your recordings, project names, filenames or notes to the advertising service.

6. Where ads can appear

Advertising is limited to natural points in the Free version:

  • a banner on Home, where your projects are listed;
  • at most one full-screen ad opportunity, when available, before output settings for an eligible new finished-export journey.

Ads do not appear during recording, trimming, playback or file creation. Retrying an unfinished export journey does not show another ad. Selecting Create audio file does not trigger another ad. Opening an existing project does not trigger an ad. If no ad is available or you are offline, you continue to the intended action.

7. Premium and advertising

AudioFolio Premium removes advertising. AudioFolio checks for Premium before preparing advertising and stops requesting ads once Premium is confirmed, rather than only hiding them. Premium does not switch off Apple’s own services, such as App Store purchase checks, or your device’s system functions.

Where required, AudioFolio may present privacy or advertising choices using Google’s consent and privacy tools. This may apply, for example, to users in the UK, the European Economic Area, Switzerland and US states with consumer privacy laws. Where you are asked, your choice is made before the related advertising is requested. AudioFolio is designed so that editing and your audio remain fully available whatever you choose.

Where available, open Menu > Ad privacy choices to review or change your choices later. Choosing not to consent or opting out does not block recording, editing or access to saved audio. It does not necessarily stop all advertising-related processing: limited advertising, security and fraud-prevention processing may still occur as described by the applicable choices and provider notices.

Google’s consent and privacy tools are separate from Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT). Internal TestFlight configurations may use test ads and bypass consent forms; test ads can still make network requests. Internal testing does not demonstrate the public release's consent behaviour.

9. Diagnostics and analytics

AudioFolio does not include a separate analytics service. Google’s advertising software may collect the crash and performance information described in section 5. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings, Apple may provide Orbis Meridian with crash reports and usage statistics under Apple’s terms. AudioFolio’s in-app diagnostics tools work on your device and do not send data to Orbis Meridian.

10. Device permissions

AudioFolio asks for microphone access only when you choose to record. You can decline and still import and edit existing audio. It does not ask for camera, photos, contacts, location or health-data access. It works only with files you choose through Apple’s Files picker or another app’s Share menu, and it uses Apple’s share sheet when you export. Audio playback can continue in the background while you listen.

11. Exporting and sharing

You decide when audio leaves AudioFolio, for example by saving it to Files, sending it to another app or storing it in a cloud service you choose. Once sent, the destination handles it under its own privacy practices, which Orbis Meridian does not control.

12. Storage, retention and deletion

AudioFolio projects and saved exports stay on your device until you delete them in the app, you delete the app, or your device’s normal storage management removes them. A saved export stays in AudioFolio’s library even if you delete the project it came from. Deleting the app can remove its local projects and exports, so keep important originals and finished files elsewhere. Copies in Files, other apps or backups follow those services’ settings.

Deleting a project and deleting a saved export are separate actions. Deleting a saved export removes that library copy and its labels; a project working copy, original or device backup can remain. Removing a folder keeps its audio in Unfiled. Support emails are handled as described in Support communications.

13. Support communications

If you contact us for help, you may choose to send your email address, a description of the problem, screenshots, diagnostic details or a recording. We use this only to investigate and resolve your enquiry, relying on our legitimate interest in supporting AudioFolio users. Information supplied in connection with a support request is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to and document that request, and may be retained longer where required for legal, security or dispute-resolution purposes. We do not add support contacts to a marketing list. We review closed support enquiries at least every three months and delete messages or attachments that are no longer needed, retaining records longer only where justified by the purposes above.

Please do not send recordings or personal information that we do not need, especially sensitive material. Contact: support.audiofolio@orbisandink.com or the AudioFolio support page.

Support email is handled through Google Workspace/Gmail only. No additional forwarding or helpdesk service handles it. The app can open an email draft with app/build, OS and generic device information; you review and send it. Recordings, filenames, project names, notes, logs, receipts and transaction identifiers are not attached automatically.

14. Children

AudioFolio is a general-purpose audio utility whose audience may include teenagers. It is not designed specifically for children, does not ask for your age and does not require an account. Restrictive advertising settings apply to everyone. Please avoid sending private recordings or information about other people in a support request unless it is necessary and you have permission to share it.

15. International processing

Google may process advertising and support information outside the UK. Google publishes information about advertising processing in its partner-services notice and privacy policy. Google Workspace processing and transfer terms are described in its Cloud Data Processing Addendum. The Founder accepted Google’s Cloud Data Processing Addendum for Workspace on 24 October 2026. It describes Google’s processing obligations and contractual safeguards for international transfers. This does not mean support messages are stored only in the UK. Final advertising arrangements must still be checked before public release; no fixed provider retention period is assumed.

16. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its use, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. For advertising, you can change your choices through Ad privacy choices where available.

Your AudioFolio projects and audio are stored on your device, not with Orbis Meridian, so Orbis Meridian cannot access, retrieve or delete them for you. You control them directly in the app. Orbis Meridian can help with information it does hold or controls through its service providers, such as support emails; email support.audiofolio@orbisandink.com. We will handle requests about processing we control, including seeking help from our providers where needed. For processing that Google or Apple controls independently, you can also use their privacy contact routes. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or your local privacy regulator.

You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact the address above to tell us which processing you object to and why.

17. How this policy relates to the Orbis Meridian Privacy Policy

This page covers privacy matters specific to AudioFolio. The Orbis Meridian Privacy Policy covers how Orbis Meridian handles personal information across its website and wider business. Where both are relevant, please read them together.
