AudioFolio support

For AudioFolio 1.0.0, currently in private testing. Import, trim, arrange and keep finished audio easy to find.

From voice notes to one finished file

  1. Record or import. Use Quick Record in AudioFolio, or import from Voice Memos or another app. AudioFolio requests microphone permission when you choose to record. It does not transcribe audio.
  2. Start on Home. Tap New project and choose recordings from Files. To add more recordings to an open project, use Menu → Add recordings from Files. From another app’s Share menu, choose AudioFolio if available, then open AudioFolio to collect the shared recordings into a project.
  3. Give the project a name. Use the menu at the top left to rename it. For example, “Biology — week 2”. Projects save locally as you make changes.
  4. Trim and arrange. Keep the part you need with Start and End, apply the trim, move recordings into order and choose the gap between them. Your original recordings stay untouched.
  5. Listen before saving. Preview individual recordings, check the joins, then listen through the project.
  6. Export. Open Export, choose a filename and format, then tap Create audio file. Keep the app open until the finished file is ready.

Files imports inside a project append recordings; sharing a batch from another app creates a separate project. Return to AudioFolio after sharing. Trim lets you listen to a selection before applying it; Cancel keeps the previous trim. Use Play full project to leave a recording or join preview.

Saved exports lets you listen to the actual saved file and share it directly. Files are saved inside AudioFolio; choose Save to Files / Share for a separate copy. Cancelling sharing keeps your file and uses no additional export. Later edits or output-format selections do not change an existing saved snapshot.

Keep the finished version easy to find

After an export, choose Label & organise export. Add a title, filename and notes, then choose a folder or make your own: School, University, Lectures, Presentations or any name that makes sense to you.

Use Menu → Saved exports to search titles, filenames, notes and folders. Each saved file is a snapshot; editing its project later does not change it. Renaming, adding notes and changing folders do not use another export.

Tap Save to Files / Share to keep a separate copy or send the audio to another app. App folders organise AudioFolio’s local library; choose your Files destination separately. Library notes and folders are not embedded audio metadata.

Keep important source files and finished exports outside AudioFolio too. Local projects do not sync between devices, and removing the app can remove its local work.

Which export should I choose?

All six options are available on Free and Premium.
Option Good for
AAC M4A Everyday listening and sharing. Compact files; also the option to use when source sample rates differ.
ALAC M4A · 24-bit Lossless audio in Apple’s M4A container.
WAV · 24-bit Uncompressed audio for further editing and broad audio-software compatibility.
WAV · 32-bit float Further editing, including audio with levels above the usual integer limit.
AIFF · 24-bit Uncompressed audio for workflows that use AIFF.
CAF · 32-bit float Apple audio workflows that accept CAF and floating-point samples.

Lossless options need recordings with the same sample rate. AAC and 24-bit exports cannot preserve levels above full scale; 32-bit float WAV/CAF can preserve that headroom when all sources share one sample rate. AAC uses lossy compression. A 24-bit export can reduce the precision of floating-point sources. A lossless output cannot restore detail already lost in a compressed source. Exporting MP3 or FLAC is not included in this release.

You can import device-supported M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, CAF, FLAC and AAC files. Opus support depends on the container and device decoder. Ogg/Vorbis, video, surround sound and layered audio are not accepted.

Copy-protected (DRM) audio cannot be imported. AudioFolio does not remove or bypass copy protection.

For other incompatible, unprotected recordings you own or have permission to edit, export a copy as an audio-only file with one mono or stereo track in a supported format, keeping the original. Changing a filename extension does not convert the audio. Importing, editing or exporting a file does not grant rights to someone else’s recordings.

Common questions

How do the three free exports work?

Free includes three successful new exports each week across projects in this installation. The week resets Monday at 00:00 UTC; the app displays the reset in your local time. Unused exports do not roll over. A new version or another format counts as another export. Failed or cancelled attempts before completion do not count; a file already completed still counts if you later close its share sheet.

You can keep editing and listening after using the allowance. Sharing an existing saved file again is free.

What does Premium add?

Unlimited new exports and no ads, through a one-time Apple purchase. Free keeps the same editing tools, six export options and sound quality. Open Menu → Premium & allowances to see the available price for your App Store region.

Why can’t I buy or restore Premium?

Try again online with the Apple Account that made the purchase. Open Menu → Premium & allowances → Restore purchases. A pending purchase unlocks only after Apple confirms it. AudioFolio is currently in private testing. TestFlight purchases use Apple’s sandbox and do not charge real money. If the app reports that Premium is unavailable, you can continue using Free. Premium depends on Apple verifying an active purchase; a revoked purchase no longer grants Premium.

When will I see ads?

The Free version has a Home banner and at most one available ad before output settings for a new finished-export journey. Starting a project or retrying that journey does not show another interstitial. There are no banners in the editor and no ad-click requirement. If ads cannot load, you can continue. The prepared internal build uses Google test ads, which earn no revenue.

My export failed or says it needs recovery. What now?

Keep your original recordings. Reopen AudioFolio to retry recovery; check available device storage and follow the message. Do not remove the app as a troubleshooting shortcut. A recovery problem may pause new exports to preserve a completed file and its allowance record. Email support with the Help & feedback Build record and the message if it persists.

Can I export while the phone is locked or the app is closed?

Keep AudioFolio open while creating an audio file. Moving the app to the background cancels an unfinished export. Background playback is supported, but interruptions such as calls or disconnected headphones can pause it; resume when you are ready.

How do I remove a project or folder?

Open the project, then Menu → Delete project. This deletes its private working copies; originals and finished files in Saved exports remain. In Saved exports, use Folders → Manage folders to rename or remove a folder. Removing a folder keeps its audio in Unfiled.

Does AudioFolio work in landscape?

The interface supports portrait and landscape on iPhone and iPad. Wider layouts can show the project list alongside the editor. Native Mac and Windows apps are not part of this release.

A real person at the other end

Need a hand?

Email support.audiofolio@orbisandink.com. Tell us what you expected, what happened and any message you saw.

Include your device, iOS or iPadOS version, and the AudioFolio version and build from Menu → Help & feedback → Build record. The app can open an email draft with basic support details; you review and send it yourself.

Leave private recordings, payment details and receipts out of your first message. If email does not open, copy the address into your usual email app.
